It tells the story of a twelve-year old boy, Bird, who lives with his father in Cambridge, MA. Maybe not today or tomorrow, but someday. While reading this story, I thought that the events depicted could play out. He needs to know why she left.īird's mother is a well-known Chinese poet, forced into hiding when her poetry is used to oppose a government policy called PACT, which instills fear and mistrust in people. The story follows a young boy, Bird, who journeys to find a mother who left him. It's not hard to imagine the future Celeste Ng paints. Again I loved it - maybe even more than the first. Then I read her second book, Little Fires Everywhere. I first fell in love with her writing when I read the book Everything I Never Told You.
